Interface between Architecture and Structural Engineering

This line seeks the study of the common interface that permeates the knowledge areas of Architecture and Structural Engineering. It aims, above all, to study the form and the structural function in architectural works whose technical, social and symbolic values are remarkable.

Research Topics:

  • Studies of the border line between Architecture and Structural Engineering
  • History of the relationship between architects and structural engineers
  • Structural Education for Architects

Structural and Constructive Systems in Architecture

This line focuses on the analysis of the relationship between architecture and rationalized structural and constructive systems. It looks for the investigation of new materials, of constructive systems that use steel, concrete and wood as structural material and of the envelopes of the buildings and their facades.

Research Topics:

  • Structural Steel and Timber Systems
  • Building Wrap / Facades
  • The Structural Glass
  • Ephemera Architecture
  • Structures in Concrete and Masonry

History of Construction and Architectural Heritage

This line aims to contribute to the historiography of Brazilian construction through the documentation and structural and constructive inventory of its works. Biographical study of architects, engineers and builders responsible for building Brazilian architecture. Study of the history of the relationship between architects and structural engineers.

Research Topics:

  • Form and Structural Function in the Architecture of Brasília

Computational and Experimental Methods Applied to Construction and Structures

Study of computational solutions for numerical problems of construction and structures. Development of tools for the teaching of structural systems in architecture.

Research Topics:

  • Meshless Methods applied to elasticity
  • Meshless Methods in Heat Transfer Problems
